Phase 1: Immediate Response

In February & March 2024, GEM responded to the Smokehouse Creek Wildfire in the Texas Panhandle. This was the second largest fire in Texas’ history. There were multiple major fires that burnt hundreds of thousands of acres, prompting evacuation orders in several counties. A disaster declaration was in place for 60 counties and a temporary shut down of the nuclear weapons facility took place. GEM provided pallets of disaster relief throughout the affected regions to assist all those affected by the fires in Texas, as well as those who are also being impacted in Oklahoma.
