Today @govhawaii and @govjoshgreen announced that Hawal’i has secured a FEMA housing extension for Maui wildfire survivors through February 2027. I worked directly with the administration to make sure families aren’t left without support while recovery continues.
This approval ensures continued stability for families still recovering from the August 2023 wildfires and aligns with my administration’s commitment to continue state housing support through the same timeframe. Federal and state programs will now run concurrently, providing certainty and continuity for survivors.

Lāhainā ʻOhana Gingerbread Decorating
In December, GEM Hawaiʻi was honored to organize and produce three free community gingerbread decorating events across West Maui—creating safe, joyful, and family-centered spaces for connection during the holiday season.
Thanks to the generous support of Imua Maui Community Healing Initiative, we were able to:
* Serve 300+ community members
* Host events at 3 locations
* Distribute $1,000+ in gift cards and raffle prizes
* Provide every family with a gingerbread house & decorating kit
From the YMCA West Side Resource Center, to a pop-up event at Lāhainā Jodo Mission, to Ka Laʻi Ola housing community—each gathering reinforced belonging, creativity, and collective healing through shared celebration.

Het Maui Relief TANF-programma, beheerd door @mauieconomicopportunity (MEO) en @globalempowermentmissionhawaii biedt korte- en langetermijnsteun aan gezinnen met kinderen met een inkomen op of onder 350% van het federale armoedeniveau en die direct of indirect getroffen zijn door de bosbranden.
Hoewel het programma een reeks voordelen biedt, is huisvestingssteun alleen beschikbaar voor gezinnen die materiële schade hebben geleden. De steun is tijdelijk en beperkt tot acht maanden plus een borgsom. De voordelen zijn alleen beschikbaar voor gezinnen met personen ten laste. Huurhulpprogramma voor mensen die in aanmerking komen voor FEMA
Fase 1: Directe respons
Ons GEM BStrong team is nu ter plaatse in Maui, Hawaii, om de mensen te helpen die zwaar getroffen zijn door de bosbranden. Onze onmiddellijke hulp komt in de vorm van onze BStrong-cashcards, die de overlevenden de flexibiliteit bieden om de benodigdheden te kopen die ze het hardst nodig hebben. We bieden ook Airbnb-hulp bij kort verblijf, langetermijnoplossingen voor huisvesting, wederopbouwprojecten en hulp bij de aankoop van gereedschap voor aannemers aan degenen van wie de huizen ernstig beschadigd of volledig verwoest zijn door de branden. We bieden ook hulp aan getroffen huisdieren. Ons team zal voor onbepaalde tijd ter plaatse zijn om ervoor te zorgen dat de mensen op Maui zoveel steun op de lange termijn krijgen als nodig is.
GEM werkt nu vanuit ons nieuwe Maui-kantoor, dat open is om te helpen met aanvragen voor langetermijnhuisvesting, onze BStrong-kaarten voor cash assistance en andere hulp.
Oplossingen voor huisvesting op lange termijn
GEM biedt momenteel huisvestingshulp voor de langere termijn aan mensen die ontheemd zijn geraakt door de branden in Lahaina. In dit programma helpen we de huisvestingskosten te verlichten voor gezinnen die naar een nieuwe ruimte moeten verhuizen. We voorzien deze huizen ook van de eerste levensbehoeften met onze GEM Welcome Home Kits.
