Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) is looking for compassionate, detail-oriented Program Advocates to join our Maui Fire Recovery team. In this role, you’ll work directly with wildfire survivors to help them navigate interim housing solutions, providing guidance, stability, and hope during a critical phase of recovery.
What You’ll Do:
• Support Maui fire survivors in identifying and securing temporary housing
• Guide participants through housing options, applications, and next steps
• Maintain accurate case notes and records
• Coordinate with landlords, partners, and internal teams
• Provide empathetic, survivor-centered assistance
Skills We’re Looking For:
• Strong computer skills
• Comfort using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, etc.)
• Knowledge of the local Maui housing market
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• A compassionate, solutions-focused mindset

Today @govhawaii and @govjoshgreen announced that Hawal’i has secured a FEMA housing extension for Maui wildfire survivors through February 2027. I worked directly with the administration to make sure families aren’t left without support while recovery continues.
This approval ensures continued stability for families still recovering from the August 2023 wildfires and aligns with my administration’s commitment to continue state housing support through the same timeframe. Federal and state programs will now run concurrently, providing certainty and continuity for survivors.

Lāhainā ʻOhana Gingerbread Decorating
In December, GEM Hawaiʻi was honored to organize and produce three free community gingerbread decorating events across West Maui—creating safe, joyful, and family-centered spaces for connection during the holiday season.
Thanks to the generous support of Imua Maui Community Healing Initiative, we were able to:
* Serve 300+ community members
* Host events at 3 locations
* Distribute $1,000+ in gift cards and raffle prizes
* Provide every family with a gingerbread house & decorating kit
From the YMCA West Side Resource Center, to a pop-up event at Lāhainā Jodo Mission, to Ka Laʻi Ola housing community—each gathering reinforced belonging, creativity, and collective healing through shared celebration.

El programa Maui Relief TANF, administrado por @mauieconomicopportunity (MEO) y @globalempowermentmissionhawaii, ofrece ayudas a corto y largo plazo a familias con hijos cuyos ingresos sean iguales o inferiores al 350% del nivel federal de pobreza y que se hayan visto afectadas directa o indirectamente por los incendios forestales.
Aunque el programa ofrece una serie de prestaciones, las ayudas a la vivienda sólo están disponibles para las familias que hayan sufrido pérdidas materiales. La ayuda es temporal y se limita a ocho meses más el depósito de seguridad. Los beneficios sólo están disponibles para familias con dependientes. Nuestro equipo GEM BStrong ya está sobre el terreno en Maui, Hawai, ayudando a los gravemente afectados por los incendios forestales. Nuestra ayuda inmediata consistirá en nuestras tarjetas BStrong, que ofrecen a los supervivientes la flexibilidad de comprar los suministros que más necesiten. También ofreceremos ayuda para alojamiento a corto plazo en Airbnb, soluciones de alojamiento a largo plazo, proyectos de reconstrucción y ayuda para la compra de herramientas para contratistas a aquellos cuyos hogares hayan resultado gravemente dañados o completamente destruidos por los incendios. También ofreceremos ayuda a las mascotas afectadas. Nuestro equipo estará sobre el terreno indefinidamente, garantizando que los habitantes de Maui reciban todo el apoyo a largo plazo que necesiten.
GEM operará ahora desde nuestra nueva oficina de Maui, que está abierta para ayudar con las solicitudes de vivienda a largo plazo, nuestras tarjetas de asistencia en efectivo BStrong y otras ayudas.

En este programa, estamos ayudando a aliviar los costes de vivienda a las familias que tienen que mudarse a nuevos espacios. También abasteceremos a estos hogares con artículos de primera necesidad, dentro de nuestros Kits de Bienvenida a Casa de GEM.
