Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) is looking for compassionate, detail-oriented Program Advocates to join our Maui Fire Recovery team. In this role, you’ll work directly with wildfire survivors to help them navigate interim housing solutions, providing guidance, stability, and hope during a critical phase of recovery.
What You’ll Do:
• Support Maui fire survivors in identifying and securing temporary housing
• Guide participants through housing options, applications, and next steps
• Maintain accurate case notes and records
• Coordinate with landlords, partners, and internal teams
• Provide empathetic, survivor-centered assistance
Skills We’re Looking For:
• Strong computer skills
• Comfort using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, etc.)

Today @govhawaii and @govjoshgreen announced that Hawal’i has secured a FEMA housing extension for Maui wildfire survivors through February 2027. I worked directly with the administration to make sure families aren’t left without support while recovery continues.
This approval ensures continued stability for families still recovering from the August 2023 wildfires and aligns with my administration’s commitment to continue state housing support through the same timeframe. Federal and state programs will now run concurrently, providing certainty and continuity for survivors.

Lāhainā ʻOhana Gingerbread Decorating
In December, GEM Hawaiʻi was honored to organize and produce three free community gingerbread decorating events across West Maui—creating safe, joyful, and family-centered spaces for connection during the holiday season.
Thanks to the generous support of Imua Maui Community Healing Initiative, we were able to:
* Serve 300+ community members
* Host events at 3 locations
* Distribute $1,000+ in gift cards and raffle prizes
* Provide every family with a gingerbread house & decorating kit
From the YMCA West Side Resource Center, to a pop-up event at Lāhainā Jodo Mission, to Ka Laʻi Ola housing community—each gathering reinforced belonging, creativity, and collective healing through shared celebration.

Fas 1: Omedelbar respons
Vårt GEM BStrong-team är nu på plats i Maui, Hawaii, för att hjälpa dem som har drabbats hårt av skogsbränderna. Vår omedelbara hjälp kommer i form av våra BStrong-kontantkort, som ger överlevande flexibilitet att köpa de förnödenheter de behöver mest. Vi kommer också att erbjuda Airbnb-hjälp med korttidsboende, långsiktiga boendelösningar, återuppbyggnadsprojekt och hjälp med inköp av entreprenörsverktyg till dem vars hem har skadats allvarligt eller förstörts helt i bränderna. Vi kommer också att erbjuda stöd till drabbade husdjur. Vårt team kommer att vara på plats på obestämd tid och se till att de på Maui får så mycket långsiktigt stöd som behövs.
GEM kommer nu att arbeta från vårt nya kontor på Maui, som är öppet för att hjälpa till med långsiktiga bostadsansökningar, våra BStrong kontanthjälpskort och annan hjälp.
Långsiktiga bostadslösningar
GEM erbjuder för närvarande långsiktig bostadshjälp till dem som har tvingats flytta efter bränderna i Lahaina. Genom det här programmet hjälper vi till att minska boendekostnaderna för familjer som måste flytta till nya utrymmen. Vi kommer också att förse dessa hem med grundläggande förnödenheter i våra GEM Welcome Home Kits.
