Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) is looking for compassionate, detail-oriented Program Advocates to join our Maui Fire Recovery team. In this role, you’ll work directly with wildfire survivors to help them navigate interim housing solutions, providing guidance, stability, and hope during a critical phase of recovery.
What You’ll Do:
• Support Maui fire survivors in identifying and securing temporary housing
• Guide participants through housing options, applications, and next steps
• Maintain accurate case notes and records
• Coordinate with landlords, partners, and internal teams
• Provide empathetic, survivor-centered assistance
Skills We’re Looking For:
• Strong computer skills
• Comfort using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, etc.)
• Knowledge of the local Maui housing market

Today @govhawaii and @govjoshgreen announced that Hawal’i has secured a FEMA housing extension for Maui wildfire survivors through February 2027. I worked directly with the administration to make sure families aren’t left without support while recovery continues.
This approval ensures continued stability for families still recovering from the August 2023 wildfires and aligns with my administration’s commitment to continue state housing support through the same timeframe. Federal and state programs will now run concurrently, providing certainty and continuity for survivors.

Lāhainā ʻOhana Gingerbread Decorating
In December, GEM Hawaiʻi was honored to organize and produce three free community gingerbread decorating events across West Maui—creating safe, joyful, and family-centered spaces for connection during the holiday season.
Thanks to the generous support of Imua Maui Community Healing Initiative, we were able to:
* Serve 300+ community members
* Host events at 3 locations
* Distribute $1,000+ in gift cards and raffle prizes
* Provide every family with a gingerbread house & decorating kit
From the YMCA West Side Resource Center, to a pop-up event at Lāhainā Jodo Mission, to Ka Laʻi Ola housing community—each gathering reinforced belonging, creativity, and collective healing through shared celebration.

Der Gedenktag des Disaster Case Management Program des Bundesstaates Hawaii zum 2-jährigen Jahrestag der Waldbrände auf Maui. Das Maui Relief TANF Program, das von @mauieconomicopportunity (MEO) und @globalempowermentmissionhawaii verwaltet wird, bietet kurz- und langfristige Unterstützung für Familien mit Kindern, deren Einkommen bei oder unter 350 % der bundesstaatlichen Armutsgrenze liegt und die direkt oder indirekt von den Waldbränden betroffen waren.
Während das Programm eine Reihe von Leistungen bietet, steht die Unterstützung für den Wohnungsbau nur für Familien zur Verfügung, die Sachschäden erlitten haben. Die Unterstützung ist befristet und auf acht Monate plus Kaution begrenzt. Die Leistungen stehen nur Familien mit Familienangehörigen zur Verfügung. Phase 1: Sofortige Reaktion
Unser GEM BStrong-Team ist jetzt in Maui, Hawaii, vor Ort, um den Menschen zu helfen, die von den Waldbränden schwer betroffen sind. Unsere Soforthilfe erfolgt in Form unserer BStrong-Cash-Karten, mit denen die Überlebenden flexibel die Dinge kaufen können, die sie am dringendsten benötigen. Wir werden auch kurzfristige Airbnb-Unterkünfte, langfristige Wohnlösungen, Wiederaufbauprojekte und Unterstützung beim Kauf von Werkzeugen für Bauunternehmer für diejenigen anbieten, deren Häuser durch die Brände schwer beschädigt oder vollständig zerstört wurden. Wir werden auch Unterstützung für betroffene Haustiere anbieten. Unser Team wird auf unbestimmte Zeit vor Ort sein, um sicherzustellen, dass die Menschen auf Maui so viel langfristige Unterstützung wie nötig erhalten.
GEM wird nun von unserem neuen Büro auf Maui aus tätig sein, das für die Beantragung von Langzeitwohnungen, unsere BStrong-Bargeldkarten und andere Hilfen zur Verfügung steht.
Langfristige Wohnlösungen
GEM bietet derzeit denjenigen, die durch die Brände in Lahaina vertrieben wurden, eine längerfristige Wohnhilfe an. Im Rahmen dieses Programms tragen wir dazu bei, die Kosten für die Unterbringung von Familien zu senken, die in neue Räume umziehen müssen. Außerdem versorgen wir diese Haushalte im Rahmen unserer GEM Welcome Home Kits mit dem Nötigsten.
