Phase 1: Immediate Response
Pakistan is currently in the midst of it’s monsoon season, causing extreme rainfall and flash flooding. In the past 3 weeks, almost 200 people have died from housing collapse, landslides, and drowning. GEM Mena is responding to the affected zones and offering assistance to displaced and affected residents, and will be on the ground Monday. As the rainfall continues, the risk for further loss of life, loss of critical infrastructure, and the loss of crops is extremely concerning. Pakistan’s increased vulnerability to these weather patterns puts their +250,000,000 residents at risk every monsoon season. The GEM team also responded to Pakistan’s 2022 floods, which took the lives of over 1,700 people and displaced millions.
