Phase 1: Disaster Relief

On November 10, 2022 Tropical Storm Nicole made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane along the east coast of Florida, just south of Vero Beach. Our field team had boots on the ground that same day for reconnaissance and distributed family necessity kits and water in St. John and Volusia Counties.

GEM is presently on the ground in Enid, Oklahoma where a massive tornado destroyed over 40 homes and tore through neighbourhoods. Considered the strongest tornado of the year, so far, the storm has caused disruptions to power and water systems and to the Vance Air Force Base.

Multiple wildfires are currently burning throughout the state of Georgia, with containment efforts stalled due to dry conditions and high winds. The fires have destroyed dozens of homes, forced evacuations in many communities, and put +1,000 more structures at risk.

On October 12th, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in remote Alaska was struck by the remnants of Typhoon Halong, bringing in severe flooding. This disaster is one of the most destructive in the region since the 1964 Alaska Earthquake.
