Phase 1:

Disaster Relief

Global Empowerment Mission responded in the first phase, disaster relief and, with our BStrong partner, sent 55 planes of emergency supplies to Puerto Rico, St Barths, St Maarten, US and British Virgin Islands within the first month of the hurricanes.

Phase 2:

The Gap Period​

Global Empowerment Mission responded in the second phase, the gap period, with our BStrong partner by shipping:

  • 86, 40 ft containers to Puerto Rico. This aid was distributed in 73 municipalities by our Puerto Rican partner Yo No Me Quito and Third Wave Volunteers.
  • One ship of supplies was sent through Resolve Marine Group to Dominica and 340 evacuations conducted.
  • 10 containers of aid were sent to the Virgin Islands
  • 1 container of aid was sent to St Maarten. 

Phase 3:

Sustainable Development

Global Empowerment Mission responded in the third phase, sustainable development, with our BStrong partner by:

  • supplying 3 Water Step filtration systems in 3 municipalities.
  • shipping a container of paint to Yo No Me Quito to repaint schools.
  • creating community school murals throughout the island.

GEM Advisory Board members, Kiko and Carlos Alvarez donated funds for this mission.

Philippines
On September 30th, the Philippines was struck by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake. It was the strongest quake ever recorded in Northern Cebu, and was followed by thousands of smaller aftershocks. Seventy five people lost their lives, and hundreds of homes have been destroyed.

Afghanistan
On September 1st, a 6.0 magnitude shallow earthquake struck the Eastern Afghanistan provinces of Kunar & Nangarhar. The quake was felt as far as Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, & India; USGS reports over 1.2 million people felt the earthquake & it’s 5 aftershocks.

Guatemala
Over the last two weeks, over 350 earthquakes have been felt across Guatemala. Thousands have been affected, with hundreds of homes experiencing extreme damage, forcing families into becoming displaced.

Pakistan
Pakistan is currently in the midst of its monsoon season, causing extreme rainfall and flash flooding. Since July, over 930 people have died from housing collapse, landslides, and drowning, and over 2 million people have been evacuated & displaced.

Myanmar
On March 28th, a massive 7.7 quake struck near Myanmar’s city of Mandalay, followed by a 6.4 aftershock. The effects of the quake has trapped hundreds of people inside destroyed buildings and rubble, with crews working to free stuck people.
