Cyclone Freddy

Phase 1: Disaster Relief

Malawi was the hardest hit by Cyclone Freddy; the severe flooding damaged the country’s power grid and ruined it’s dam. Hundreds of people lost their lives, and many lost their homes. Currently, the greatest struggle for Malawi residents has been the agriculture damage of Cyclone Freddy. The storms and flooding completely destroyed fields at the height of the harvest season. Food insecurity is now a threat to millions, as well as the current cholera outbreak being faced. GEM has partnered with Feed The Hungry, who are local to Malawi, to quickly help by supplying large scale food assistance to those affected by Freddy.
