Michael Capponi

Founder/President

Michael Capponi is the Founder and President of Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), a leading international disaster relief nonprofit dedicated to delivering rapid, strategic, and sustainable aid to communities in crisis. A visionary humanitarian and entrepreneur, Capponi has leveraged decades of experience in real estate development, logistics, and philanthropy to build GEM into one of the most agile and effective organizations in the global aid sector.

Capponi’s career began in Miami, where he became a pioneering figure in the city’s real estate and hospitality industries. Widely credited with helping transform South Beach into a world-renowned destination, he established a reputation for visionary development and cultural influence. In 2011, following a profound personal shift in purpose, Capponi redirected his energy toward humanitarian work—driven by a mission to bring speed, dignity, efficiency, and long-term impact to disaster response.

Founded in 2011, GEM operates under a distinctive three-phase model:

  1. Disaster Relief
  2. Stabilization
  3. Sustainable Development

This structure allows GEM to deploy within 24–72 hours of a disaster, deliver critical life-saving supplies, and remain on the ground for months or years to rebuild homes, infrastructure, schools, and livelihoods. Under Capponi’s leadership, GEM has become a model for modern humanitarian aid—lean, transparent, partnership-driven, and locally empowered. GEM maintains a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator and has frequently delivered aid faster and more efficiently than many of the world’s largest international NGOs.
