Phase 1: Immediate Response

Hurricane Lowell was a powerful Pacific hurricane that intensified to Category 5 strength before tracking toward the Hawaiian Islands in early September 2026. Although Lowell did not make direct landfall, it passed west of Niʻihau and Kauai, bringing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, flooding, mudslides, and widespread power outages. The storm caused significant impacts across Hawaii, with some areas of Kauai recording wind gusts above 90 mph and emergency crews responding to extensive infrastructure and debris damage.

As the storms approached the Hawaiian Islands, Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) was on the ground and ready to respond. The GEM Hawaii team is currently assisting the affected neighbourhoods on Kauai & Ni’ihau Island, offering support and distributing immediate needs.

GEM has a permanent office and team based in Hawaiʻi, allowing us to mobilize quickly and work alongside state, county, and community partners to support communities impacted by the storm. GEM has stood with Hawaiʻi since the Maui wildfires, and we remain committed to supporting our communities through every stage of disaster response and recovery.

Venezuela Earthquakes

On the evening of June 24th, back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela, with a 7.1 magnitude quake followed roughly a minute later by an even stronger 7.5 magnitude quake, centered just west of the capital. Buildings have collapsed across Caracas, where rescue crews are searching for survivors.

Philippines Earthquake 2026

Early June 8th, The Philippines most populous island of Mindanao was struck by a 7.8 magnitude quake. Immediately, infrastructure was severely damaged and tsunami warnings were put in place for the region.
