GEM Hawaiʻi Executive Director @danielle.dreis joined Island Life Live to discuss Global Empowerment Mission’s ongoing response following Hurricane Lala and the road to recovery for communities across Hawaiʻi Island. @globalempowermentmissionhawaii
During the segment, Danielle highlighted the extraordinarily generous donation made by UNIQLO and TY Management Founder Tadashi Yanai, who selected GEM as one of four charitable organizations to receive support. We are deeply grateful for this commitment to the people and communities of Hawaiʻi during such a critical time.
In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Lala, GEM Hawaiʻi was the first NGO to reach some of the hardest-hit areas, providing cash cards directly to families whose homes and properties were impacted, giving them the ability to address their most urgent needs immediately.
Our teams have also been providing residents with the essential tools and supplies needed to begin the difficult work of cleaning up after the devastating flooding caused by Lala, including shovels, rakes, buckets, gloves, tarps, cleanup kits, and other critical supplies. But the work is only beginning.
GEM is now in the process of establishing a warehouse on Hawaiʻi Island that will serve as a base for continued humanitarian assistance and long-term recovery efforts as families begin rebuilding their homes, businesses, and communities.
At the same time, GEM Hawaiʻi ground teams remain on high alert as additional tropical disturbances develop across the Pacific, with the potential to impact the Hawaiian Islands.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Tadashi Yanai, UNIQLO, TY Management, and all of our partners and supporters helping make this work possible. Special thanks to @laiwohi @uniqlousa

Nepal Mission Update
Yesterday, our GEM Asia teams completed an extraordinary 19-hour journey through the #Himalayas to reach #Dhunche in #Rasuwa District, navigating washed-out, muddy roads, heavy rain and river crossings. Vehicles became stuck repeatedly along the route, but our team and local drivers pushed through extremely difficult conditions to deliver two full trucks of critical humanitarian aid to communities devastated by the disaster.
Today, @globalempowermentmissionasia delivered essential supplies, including rice, water, lentils, baby food and formula, diapers, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, cooking oil, clothing and other necessities to the military base in Dhunche, where supplies are being moved by helicopter into isolated communities.
We coordinated directly with the Ward President of Hakubeshi, to ensure GEM aid reaches families in an area that, until now, has received no assistance or supplies. We working with the District Officer of Rasuwa District, and provided brand new specific clothing for the 40 children newly orphaned by the disaster, with the supplies placed directly into his care for distribution.
Our local partners and government counterparts are therefore helping ensure GEM supplies continue moving directly to affected families, including displaced families currently sheltering in Dhunche. Our teams remain on the ground coordinating with local authorities, identifying underserved communities and assessing evolving needs.
Reaching this region was exceptionally difficult, but this is exactly why GEM is here: to reach families and communities that others have not yet been able to reach. Nepal’s first formal government situation report now estimates 1.6 million people affected, with Rasuwa and Nuwakot severely impacted. More than 14,400 people across 3,700 households remain isolated in remote municipalities due to disrupted roads, power and communications.
GEM has multiple cargo flights mobilized and larger influxes of aid is on the way.
Special thanks to our local ground partner Nepal Peace Scouts. @statedept @usembassynepal @good360usa @amazon @ups #aerialrecovery @bethmccluney

Nepal Mission Update
Our GEM USA and @globalempowermentmissionasia teams have been on the ground in #Nepal for the last 48 hours, working around the clock to find real solutions for the thousands of people impacted by this devastating disaster.
In this video, you’ll see two fully-loaded GEM relief trucks carrying vital supplies to a forward base camp. From there, in close coordination with the Government of Nepal, the U.S @statedept, and our teams on the ground, aid will move into communities that remain hard to reach.
Multiple humanitarian cargo flights will depart this week from our @globalempowermentmission headquarters in Miami and our @globalempowermentmissioneurope branch in Warsaw, Poland, delivering critical shelter materials and life-saving relief valued at over1 million dollars.
In partnership with Nepal Peace Scouts, whom we’ve worked with since the 2023 Nepal earthquake, GEM has stepped in to care for 40 newly orphaned children. Nepal Peace Scouts is a respected 67-year-old Nepalese organization with over 1,000 volunteers and deep roots in communities across the country.
Together, we are ensuring these children receive a new safe home, nutritious food, clothing, and daily care for the next six months, side by side with our trusted local partner Nepal Peace Scouts
Our teams will remain on the ground for as long as needed, adapting to the severity and evolving needs of this disaster. Tragically, many more children have been orphaned, and their protection and care will remain a core focus of GEM’s response. NEPAL–TIBET FLASH FLOOD
GEM Asia is deploying ground teams to respond to the catastrophic flash flood has struck the remote Himalayan border region between Nepal and Tibet, leaving widespread devastation and triggering major search-and-rescue operations.
A massive surge of water, mud, rock, ice and debris tore through communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems, destroying homes and critical infrastructure and cutting off communities across the mountainous region.
According to current reports:
• More than 150 people have been reported dead across Nepal and Tibet, with casualty figures continuing to rise.
• Hundreds remain missing, including foreign tourists and pilgrims traveling through the region.
• The Trishuli River reportedly surged by as much as 30 feet in approximately 30 minutes at one monitoring location.
• At least 19 bridges and approximately 25 miles of roadway have reportedly been swept away.
• Roads, communications, electrical infrastructure and hydropower facilities have sustained significant damage.
• Rescue operations remain extremely difficult due to destroyed access routes, mountainous terrain and isolated communities.
Preliminary scientific assessments indicate the disaster may have been triggered by a massive ice-and-rock avalanche high in the Himalayas, which entered a tributary of the Bhote Koshi and generated a devastating downstream flood wave.
Authorities are also closely monitoring a potential remaining upstream blockage, raising concerns about the possibility of additional flooding.
The full scale of this disaster is still unfolding. More updates to follow as verified information becomes available. @globalempowermentmissionasia Photos by: @reuters @apnews @nytimes

GEM HQ Capacity Update | Miami-Dade County Only
These aerial views show our response infrastructure in Miami-Dade County. A special thanks to our long-time warehousing partner @prologis for their continued support in providing critical warehouse space that makes rapid response possible. And to Mayor @christifraga and the @cityofdoral.
Today, GEM is operating more than 655,000 square feet of warehouse space in Miami-Dade alone, all currently filled with life-saving aid, made possible by the extraordinary generosity of our donors, corporate partners and diaspora. To put this in perspective, this is roughly the equivalent of five full-size Costco warehouses, all dedicated to only humanitarian relief in our region.
This is the kind of scale and infrastructure that allows us to respond decisively and mobilize what we know will become the largest humanitarian response in Venezuela’s history. Our HQ infrastructure is always ready and able to respond to crises immediately.
Swipe through to see our capacity in action. GEM also operates multiple regional branches in the United States and globally across 4 continents. Our total global capacity nears 875,000 sq ft. This ensures we are ready and prepositioned when and where disaster strikes. @miamidadeem @miamidadecounty #infastructure #capacity #warehousing @globalempowermentmission

Today marks two months since GEM began serving survivors of the catastrophic twin earthquakes in Venezuela.
What you’re looking at is the largest private/public humanitarian response in Venezuela’s history.
GEM @globalempowermentmission, in partnership with @welove_foundation and the U.S. @statedept, has committed an initial $75 million in aid for Phase 1 Emergency Support.
The scale of this response is extraordinary, but the numbers tell only part of the story. This is ultimately a story about the power of the Venezuelan diaspora, the resilience of the Venezuelan people, and what is possible when the public, private, nonprofit, and humanitarian sectors work together toward one mission.
Our First Two Months of Impact:
• $30M+ in humanitarian aid delivered
• 5,338 pallets shipped
• 30 humanitarian cargo flights
• 175 sea containers
• 125+ direct distributions to affected communities
According to the United Nations Logistics Cluster, GEM has delivered more than 50% of all humanitarian aid entering Venezuela over the last two months.
A very special thank you to our incredible partners at We Love Foundation, the U.S. Department of State, the Venezuelan diaspora, our dedicated volunteers, donors, corporate partners, and every individual who has helped make this historic humanitarian effort possible.
This response is far from over. As we move beyond emergency relief, GEM will continue expanding its programs and preparing for the next phases of recovery and rebuilding.

HURRICANE LALA | HAWAIʻI RESPONSE
GEM Hawaiʻi teams are on the ground responding to communities across Hawaiʻi Island impacted by Hurricane Lala, with immediate efforts focused on the hard-hit Kaʻū region.
Nā‘ālehu was among the communities that sustained significant damage. Floodwaters swept away homes, damaged local businesses and Nā‘ālehu Elementary School, and left streets and properties covered in mud and debris. The iconic Punaluʻu Bake Shop, a longtime landmark and gathering place for the community, was also heavily damaged.
In the immediate aftermath of the storm, surrounding Kaʻū communities were effectively isolated. Damaged and blocked roads, disrupted communications, and road closures into Pāhala made it extremely difficult for outside assistance to reach residents.
Because GEM already has an established presence on Hawaiʻi Island, our teams were able to mobilize quickly and move directly into impacted communities. GEM Hawaiʻi is providing families with the practical resources they need to begin the difficult work of recovery, including cleanup kits, buckets, tarps, shovels, gloves, and other essential supplies to clear mud and debris and protect damaged homes.
GEM is also providing immediate cash assistance through cash cards distributed to affected families and community centers, helping those whose homes have become unlivable cover urgent necessities during these first critical days.
For families who have lost so much, recovery begins one home, one family, and one community at a time. GEM Hawaiʻi will continue working alongside local communities as immediate relief transitions into the longer road toward recovery. Every donation makes a difference.
To support GEM’s Hurricane Lala Hawaiʻi Response, please donate, volunteer, or share this post to help us reach more people who want to make a difference.

🇨🇴 COLOMBIA EARTHQUAKE | GEM RESPONSE
A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, causing significant damage to buildings and infrastructure across the region, with injuries reported as authorities continue to assess the full extent of the impact.
Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) has already deployed ground teams en route to affected communities to assess immediate needs, coordinate with local partners and authorities, and determine where critical humanitarian assistance is needed most.
The earthquake was centered near San José del Palmar in Colombia’s Chocó region, approximately 250 miles west of Bogotá. A 5.0 magnitude aftershock followed less than an hour later.
The force of the earthquake was felt across a wide area, prompting evacuations as far away as Bogotá. Strong shaking was also reported along Colombia’s Caribbean coast in Barranquilla and across the border in neighboring Ecuador.
As aftershocks continue and the full scale of the damage becomes clearer, GEM teams are mobilizing to support impacted individuals and families.
We will continue to provide updates from the ground as our teams reach affected communities and assessments are completed. www.GEM.org
