Avianca Cargo has independently and in partnership with GOL transported over 100 tons of aid to Colombia to support response and recovery efforts in areas affected by the recent earthquakes in the country. The airline recently transported 60 tons of humanitarian aid to Cali. Of the 60 tons transported to Cali from Miami, Florida, nine tons consisted of aid coordinated by the Government of Colombia, while 51 tons were donated by Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) to support the communities most in need.

The Miami-based nonprofit in the midst of a massive disaster relief mission for Venezuelans affected by historic June earthquakes is now concurrently launching Colombian relief efforts after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake Monday struck the western part of the country. The organization’s response teams are already in Cali, Colombia and expect to receive supplies Wednesday. At least 181 people have been confirmed dead in Colombia as of Tuesday.

One week after devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela, relief efforts in South Florida continue at a steady pace. Rows of cars have remained lined up at the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) in Doral, where volunteers are collecting donations of non-perishable food, tents, and diapers to send to the disaster zone. "As of this morning, three planes have landed, and aid is being distributed," said Francine De La Rosa, a member of the GEM Executive Board. "Over 171 pallets have been unloaded from those planes and nearly 8,000 family necessity kits."
