GEM is presently on the ground in Enid, Oklahoma where a massive tornado destroyed over 40 homes and tore through neighbourhoods. Considered the strongest tornado of the year, so far, the storm has caused disruptions to power and water systems and to the Vance Air Force Base.

Am 12. Oktober wurde das Yukon-Kuskokwim-Delta im abgelegenen Alaska von den Überresten des Taifuns Halong heimgesucht, der schwere Überschwemmungen verursachte. Diese Katastrophe ist eine der verheerendsten in der Region seit dem Alaska-Erdbeben von 1964.
Am 30. September wurden die Philippinen von einem Erdbeben der Stärke 6,9 heimgesucht. Es war das stärkste Beben, das jemals in Nord-Cebu gemessen wurde, und wurde von Tausenden kleinerer Nachbeben gefolgt. Fünfundsiebzig Menschen verloren ihr Leben, und Hunderte von Häusern wurden zerstört.
Am 1. September ereignete sich in den ostafghanischen Provinzen Kunar und Nangarhar ein flaches Erdbeben der Stärke 6,0. Das Beben war bis nach Tadschikistan, Usbekistan, Pakistan und Indien zu spüren. Laut USGS haben über 1,2 Millionen Menschen das Beben und seine 5 Nachbeben gespürt.
