Hurricane Preparedness
Hurricane preparedness is not just a seasonal commitment, but a core component of our organization. Being headquartered in one of the most hurricane prone regions, GEM is familiar with the requirements of a successful and impactful response. Our hurricane preparedness efforts allow for rapid mobilization of necessary humanitarian aid after hurricane landfall in the Gulf & Atlantic regions. Our geographical advantage works to allow for a continuous flow of aid from our existing infrastructure to the disaster sites.
Our proactive annual efforts include stocking critical supplies, packing Family Necessity Kits, communicating with emergency agencies, coordinating volunteers & local partners, and staging response teams in advance of landfall.
Hurricane preparedness is important as it greatly reduces our response time and helps get help to those who need it most right away.
In collaboration with FarmShare, hurricane preparedness events are held throughout Florida to distribute prepositioned aid to community members.
Join GEM & FarmShare on June 6, 2026 for a free Hurricane Preparedness Event. Eight sites across Florida will be distributing emergency supplies at no cost to families, seniors, and individuals. Sites open at 9:00 AM & run until 12:00 PM, or until supplies last. The event is first come, first served; arrive early. No ID, paperwork, or documentation is required. Supplies are available to everyone.
