Phase 1: Immediate Response

The GEM LATAM team was on the ground in Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil responding to the extreme flooding in May 2024. Over 1 million homes were without access to water, tens of thousands of people had been evacuated and placed in shelters, and countless more were affected. We held large-scale aid distributions in Novo Hamburgo, Lomba Grande, Estrela, Campo Bom, Lajeado, São Leopoldo, and Porto Alegre of food, water, blankets, and hygiene supplies. Additionally, our team also assisted displaced residents with finding access to shelters.

In the first two weeks on the ground we were able to support over 5,000 families with over 100 tons of critical supplies.

Philippines Earthquake

Early June 8th, The Philippines most populous island of Mindanao was struck by a 7.8 magnitude quake. Immediately, infrastructure was severely damaged and tsunami warnings were put in place for the region.

The GEM MENA team, alongside our partners HCI & ONSUR, is presently on the ground in Tyre (Soor), Lebanon supporting displaced families and individuals. The ongoing conflict and crisis in Lebanon has left roughly 80% of the population in poverty.

Oklahoma Tornado

GEM is presently on the ground in Enid, Oklahoma where a massive tornado destroyed over 40 homes and tore through neighbourhoods. Considered the strongest tornado of the year, so far, the storm has caused disruptions to power and water systems and to the Vance Air Force Base.

Georgia Wildfires

Multiple wildfires are currently burning throughout the state of Georgia, with containment efforts stalled due to dry conditions and high winds. The fires have destroyed dozens of homes, forced evacuations in many communities, and put +1,000 more structures at risk.

After a series of 19 typhoons and tropical depressions, Vietnam is facing one of the most severe disasters in recent years. Over 400 people have died, 727 have been injured, and more than 337,000 homes have been destroyed.

Our experienced GEM Caribbean team, based in Kingston, Jamaica, is leading large-scale humanitarian operations across the island in response to Hurricane Melissa. Large scale aid deliveries are underway, with millions of lbs of critical supplies being distributed.

Alaska Typhoon

On October 12th, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in remote Alaska was struck by the remnants of Typhoon Halong, bringing in severe flooding. This disaster is one of the most destructive in the region since the 1964 Alaska Earthquake.
