Japan Earthquake

Phase 1 : Réponse immédiate

On January 1st, a major 7.6 earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in Japan. This earthquake was the deadliest in Japan since 2016, taking the lives of hundreds and injuring many more. It also caused a tsunami; the first of which since the devastating 2011 earthquake. Many communities faced extreme destruction and damage, causing an estimated $17.6 billion dollars of damage.

GEM partnered our with long-standing partner, Japanese International Food for Hungry & Hunger Zero, to better respond and assist on the ground. GEM was in Kanazawa, conducting distributions in Monzen and Wajima for affected residents.
