Record-breaking floods have devastated parts of Bahía Blanca, Argentina, where more than 400mm (15.7 in) of rain fell in just 8 hours—over twice the city’s previous record from 1930 and nearly a year’s worth of rainfall. Roads are destroyed, bridges washed away—only one crossing remains. With a population of 350,000, the city now faces an estimated $375 million in damage. 1,500+ people are displaced across 13 shelters, over 100 remain missing, and tragically, 16 lives have been lost. Devastation swept across Missouri last night, with 17 tornadoes—ranging from EF0 to EF3—touching down in the state alone. The death toll from this massive storm system has risen to at least 31 across six states as of Saturday night.
GEM has boots on the ground in Ozark County, Missouri, already assessing damage and identifying urgent needs. A GEM semi-truck loaded with aid is en route, and our teams are distributing Bstrong cash cards and GEM Bstrong essential necessities kits to impacted individuals and families.
The storms have knocked out power to hundreds of thousands, and the threat isn’t over. Nearly 10 million people remain under tornado watches, with an additional 83 million facing extreme wind advisories.

For the past 48 hours, Volcán de Fuego has been erupting near San Juan Alotenango, in Guatemala, forcing thousands to evacuate and putting over 30,000 lives at risk.
GEM LATAM is on the ground coordinating with local officials to deliver urgent support—food, water, and hygiene supplies—to at-risk communities. Schools are closed, roads are blocked, and evacuations continue.

Hurricane Beryl Recovery Update – Jamaica
Last July, Hurricane Beryl swept through the Caribbean and Jamaica’s southern coast with powerful winds and heavy rain, leaving behind widespread devastation. Hurricane force winds and flooding impacted roads, farmland, and coastal communities—damaging homes, crops, fishing boats, and infrastructure. Tragically, four lives were lost.
In response, the GEM Caribbean branch has helped repair 423 homes, repairing roofs and improving living conditions for over 1,400 people. Also, we did 1000 IOM-GEM home repair resilience kits.
Thanks to a generous grant from @amazon, we were able to purchase generators using Amazon gift cards, which were distributed through our smart partnership with @bredstreasurebeach. These generators delivered critical power to essential services in the hardest-hit areas in the aftermath of the storm. In Jamaica alone, GEM has distributed over $400,000 in humanitarian aid supplies to seven communities in south St. Elizabeth, south Manchester and south Clarendon.

On March 7th, Bahía Blanca and Cerri, Argentina were hit with over a year’s worth of rain in just eight hours. The heavy water quickly damaged roads, bridges, cars, housing, infrastructure, throughout the region. There have been 16 confirmed deaths, and still over 100 people missing. Missile strike on Poltava on February 1, 2025 resulted in extensive damage and destruction of residential buildings. GEM Ukraine team was on the ground on day 1 and immediately started assisting within GEM HGBF windows program.
Currently we are replacing a total of 873 windows in Poltava alone.
Yesterday, team met with the Mayor of Poltava @kateryna_yamshchykova , inspected ongoing windows installations and visited the families affected by the strike.

Today marks the third anniversary of russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since the second day of the war, GEM has been on the ground, implementing various programs to support those affected.
In partnership with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, we have achieved the following:
• 4,680,734 GEM HGBF family necessity kits distributed in frontline regions
• 24,733,665 liters of water provided
• 293,642,955 GEM HGBF meals delivered to those in need
• 38,892 people relocated to over 40 countries within the first five months of the war through our Bstrong partnership with Jolanta Kwasniewska Foundation “Communication without barriers”
• 900+ locations receiving GEM HGBF aid distributions on a monthly basis
• 224,462 windows installed to date
• 1,596 HGBF generators distributed
• 260 homes rebuilt, including those on Vokzalna Street in Bucha
• 29,945,770 HGBF seeds distributed

Catastrophic flooding in Kentucky last week triggered 30 flood warnings and 47 flash flood warnings, leaving over 40,000 people without power and forcing the closure of more than 300 roads—cutting off access to those who need help the most.
Families are trapped in flooded homes without electricity, braving freezing temperatures as winter storms make conditions even worse. The snow has only intensified this crisis.
In response to this devastating flooding, which has claimed 14 lives, GEM is partnering with local churches and organizations we’ve worked with since the 2022 floods to provide critical aid.
Our semi-trucks packed with disaster relief supplies—including water, nonperishable food, hygiene kits, diapers, cleaning supplies, pet products, and more—are being deployed across Eastern Kentucky, reaching rural communities and shelters in desperate need.

Video: LA Wildfires - 1 Month Recap
One month ago, wildfires tore through Los Angeles, burning 30,000 acres and destroying 16,000+ homes and buildings. Thousands of families were forced to evacuate—many returning to nothing but ash.
In the face of devastation, GEM Bstrong sprang into action, providing critical aid to over 11,000 families and 25,000 individuals. In just one month, we’ve:
✅ Deployed 10 semi-trucks carrying 238 pallets of essential supplies
✅ Provided $435,000+ in direct cash assistance & $540,000+ in in-kind aid
✅ Delivered Family Necessity Kits, Starlinks, Solar Panels, Hygiene Kits, Air Purifiers, Pet Supplies, and more
But recovery is far from over. As emergency funding decreases, families still need stability. That’s why GEM is launching a rental assistance program to help the displaced find secure housing as they rebuild.

Hurricane Helene-Milton update on our Florida efforts in partnership with @rivertampabay. As we approach the 6 month mark, here’s what we’ve done together for West Coast Floridians. -41 full size semi trucks carrying over 6 M in supplies were sent here. The River at Tampa Bay was also able to support over 18 partner churches with these supplies. They covered over 300 sq miles of Florida towns and cities. In addition, they also supported Ridge Manor in Kentucky. Through their immense networks, over 50,000 people in Florida received our aid. We met Ayca at the onset of the Türkiye 🇹🇷 earthquake in 2023. She worked hard for @globalempowermentmissionmena Türkiye and then as a fearless woman expanded our missions into countries where women are suppressed. She empowered other women by showing leadership and freedom.

Another devastating missile attack on Ukraine has resulted in at least 15 lives lost and significant damage to residential buildings and energy infrastructure across the country. In the central city of Poltava, a Russian missile struck a residential building, killing 11 people and injuring 16 others, including four children.
Our @globalempowermentmissionua team is on the ground in Poltava, assessing the damage and preparing to support affected families through our emergency window repair program.
To date, GEM HGBF replaced over 219,000 windows across Ukraine.

Yesterday, our #GEM #BStrong LA branch team had the honor of supporting the incredible volunteer firefighters of Fillmore Fire Station 91—true heroes who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect their communities. These brave men and women were among the first responders to the #PalisadesFires, rushing in when others were rushing out.
Thanks to the power of Smart Partnerships, we were able to show them the gratitude they deserve. @royalcaribbean helped us purchase brand-new fire gear for 60 firefighters, ensuring they have the protection they need when facing the flames. Through @bethennyfrankel #Bstrong initiative, we provided $1,000 Bstrong Visa cards to these courageous first responders, offering direct financial relief. @stableroadfoundation stepped in to deliver additional critical supplies, and @jackeryusa provided solar generators—because even heroes need power when the lights go out.
