RETURN TO RELIEF MISSIONS
HURRICANE FLORENCE | 2018 MISSION VIDEO & PHOTOS
On September 14, Hurricane Florence hit the mainland of the Carolinas. GEM had its assessment teams on the ground on September 16.
We made it to Fayetteville but the roads were impassable. After our third try, a North Carolina prison guard came to us and offered to help us get into Fayetteville. He escorted us in through back roads and we finally arrived at the shelters in Fayetteville. Our GEM team and Third Wave Volunteers visited 3 shelters assessing where the most needs are.
We went to the True Vine Ministries shelter with Pastor Ernest Jones and Director Chad Beasley. We brought this shelter food as they were short. We also visited the Pinetree Shelter director and Mana Church shelter.
There’s thousands of people in shelters with not much aid on the other side of these roads. They are expecting it to rise another 20 ft in these areas in days to come.
On Day 2, GEM received a $40,000 grant from Delivering Good/ Bethenny Frankel/ Bstrong. These funds will be solely spent on gift cards to distribute to 400 victims in 2 shelters. The Third Wave Volunteers team headed by Alison Thompson joined the local rescue efforts with the Cajun Navy and went on search and rescue missions in flooded areas.
On Day 3, we distributed $40,000 in gift cards to the Manna Church shelter and the Pine Forest shelter in Fayetville. These gift cards were graciously donated by Bethenny Frankel and Bstrong. We also delivered toys, pet food, food, water and hygiene products donated by Bstrong.
Please stay tuned for important updates and how you can help.
