Early June 8th, The Philippines most populous island of Mindanao was struck by a 7.8 magnitude quake. Immediately, infrastructure was severely damaged and tsunami warnings were put in place for the region. This quake was the strongest since 1976, and has damaged over 2,100 homes, government buildings, and schools. Currently, 37 people have been declared dead and 32,000 people have been displaced.
Right now, GEM Europe is organizing distribution efforts in General Santos City, where the community has faced largest-scale destruction. Our teams will be on the ground distributing food, water, hygiene supplies, and other necessities, ensuring the aid is reaching those who need it most.
