RETURN TO WHAT WE DO
EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT
On January 15, 2010, GEM’s founding team led a group of firefighters, doctors and nurses to Haiti. This group was part of the first responders who arrived days after the tragic earthquake. The team provided emergency life saving care to hundreds of Haitians suffering injuries from falling debris and unattended wounds for days. The ability to arrive on the scene quickly is absolutely critical to saving lives. For this to occur, a collection of appropriate medical supplies and teams must be ready to go at a moment’s notice. This is part of the foundation and core of gem's mission.
Since the earthquake, GEM hasprovided full education and scholarship for 50 students in Jacmel, Haiti. The students attend various private schools such as Centre d'etudes Classique, Ecole Évangélique Chrétienne de Lauture, Ecole Baptiste de St Cyr and College Hosanna. GEM has also placed the adults in an HVS hospitality training school from which 23 students have graduated.
