DR. ALISON THOMPSON
Dr. Alison Thompson is a full time global humanitarian volunteer who has run refugee camps and field hospitals in most of the major natural disasters around the world for the past 20 years. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in the Humanities from Loyola Chicago University, the Order of Australia from Queen Elizabeth 2nd and the 'Medal of Excellence' from two star General Simeon Trombitas and the 82nd Airborne. She is the current Ambassador to the Haitian Ministry of Environment. Her organization Third Wave Volunteers have over 30,000 members and have been volunteering in the Syrian Refugee Crisis for the past 3 years followed by Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, Irma, Maria, Florence and Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle. In 1990, Alison moved to NYC and worked on Wall St, followed by NYU film school and became a DGA film director. On Sept 11th, 2001 Alison was a 1st responder for 9 months at Ground Zero in NYC. In 2004 Asian tsunami she volunteered for 2 years in Sri Lanka operating a busy field hospital and rebuilding a village. There she Co-Founded CTEC, the first Community Tsunami Early-warning/Disaster Center in Sri Lanka. Her award winning Doc. "The Third Wave" focuses on volunteerism and premiered at the 2008 Cannes film festival supported by Actor Sean Penn and Bono followed by a book by Random House with the same title. In the 2010 Haiti earthquake she flew in with 10 doctors and Sean Penn -together they managed a 65,000 person IDP camp and field hospital. Alison also co-founded WeAdvance, an organization combating gender-based violence in Haiti. Other disasters include: Super storm Sandy, Haiti & Nepal earthquakes, Philippines-Typhoons, Syrian crisis, Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, Maria, Irma, Florence and Hurricane Michael.
Dr. Thompson lectures on leadership, volunteering, sustainable renewables, gender based violence and CSR via the American Program Bureau to both colleges and corporations worldwide.
